As the capital city of Wyoming, Cheyenne defines the “old west.” The city is named after the Cheyenne Indian tribe who inhabited southeast Wyoming. Born in 1867 as a railroad and military town, the city is Wyoming's center for government, business, and education. The “hub” of Wyoming, Cheyenne sits astride the crossroad of Interstate I-25 & I-80 and is a major junction for its largest private employer, Union Pacific Railroad. The historic center piece of the city is the Cheyenne Depot Museum. Originally the Union Pacific Depot the building is arguably the most beautiful rail station in the United States. The Depot was fully renovated from 2001 to 2005 with the building designated a National Historic Landmark in 2006. Cheyenne has become a major national center for technology related industries and is home to major facilities by Microsoft, Green House Data, and the National Center for Atmospheric Research. Cheyenne is proud to be the host city and home of F.E. Warren Air Force Base. Formally Fort DA Russell, which was established to protect the construction of the Transcontinental Railway, FE Warren AFB is a vital key to our national defense as home of the 20th Air Force and 90th Missile Wing. The base is an active member of the community and Cheyenne's largest employer with over 4,200 military and civilian employees. The annual Cheyenne Frontier Days is the world’s largest outdoor rodeo attracting thousands of attendee’s each year.
